Larry Moss, known to many of us as a long-time friend of Austrian economics and the editor of the very Austrian-friendly American Journal of Economics and Sociology has passed away. Bill Anderson at the Mises Blog has more.
I did not know Larry well, but my interactions with him were always delightful. He was a critical figure early in the Austrian revival, both by editing The Economics of Ludwig von Mises book in the early 70s (which grew out of an SEA panel) and by giving Austrians opportunities within the History of Economics Society.
We all send our condolences to Larry's family, friends, and colleagues.
I think I read the Moss edited little book on Mises before a read a word of Mises himself. As I recall, he was a very good writer.

This is devastating. I knew Larry well as a friend and scholar both. He was a wonderful person, always upbeat and charming. He was a committed and skilled scholar as well. His achievements with the AJES were impressive. Austrian economics owes much to him on several fronts, including his work as editor of AJES and his contributions to the Austrian revival. Mosty, though, I will miss the man.

I first met Larry Moss in New York City when I was a college student in the late 1960s. He was finishing his doctorate at Columbia University at the time. I was in many Austro-libertarian discussion forums with him. I remember him as a historian of thought who edited what I believe was the first book in the series of books that marked the Austrian revival, The Economics of Ludwig von Mises. Larry was not an orthodox Austrian but he was very helpful and generous to Austrian economists. I will miss him. RIP.

I met Larry Moss at that first Austrian Economics conference in South Royalton, Vermont in June 1974.
He made many insightful commments during the week. But what I recall most vividly was the wonderful magic show that he put on for the attendees one evening. Yes, Larry was an accomplished magician, besides his many other talents as an economist and a superb editor of the "American Journal of Economics and Sociology."
That journal had been open to Austrian and in general free market economists from the 1940s. And Larry always maintained that "open door" policy.

I wish to add my regret at the passing of Larry Moss. He was an open-minded editor, fine scholar, and decent human being.
