There is some controversy as to the meaning of this phrase. There is even controversy over the meaning of Queens lyrics and performance of the song under that title. But in the context of this post, I mean someone is "off the market". In other words, you no longer have a chance to scoop up this opportunity to better your department.
Emily Schaeffer has recently accepted a faculty position at San Jose State University. Emily is an enthusiastic teacher/scholar of economics and political economy and will be a great addition to that already strong department. She will be defending her thesis next month, which is an examination of the political economy of disaster response and recovery. Please join me in congratulating Emily on this accomplishmenet.
I have earlier discussed Diana Weinert's job placement at Utah State University. Diana will also defend her thesis next month. Her thesis work is on the political economy of rent-seeking. She will be joining a new and exciting research and educational
mission at Utah State. Diana is also "off the market" in another important respect --- she is getting married this May to Michael Thomas. So join me in double congratulating Diana (and also Michael, who showed keen entrepreneurial alertness in the marriage market!).
Anyway, spend some time looking at the topics these two young women work on, the quality of their work, and the strong teaching records they have put together.
Congrats ladies!!!

Congratulations Emily and Diana - it's great to see the progam producing so much talent, good luck with the transition from grad student to junior faculty

Well done Emily and Diana.
I suppose the big question is: is Emily off the market in both ways too? If not, I'm available!

Congratulations Emily, Diana, and Michael on your success. Good luck on the transition to being a faculty member. Be fruitful, and publish!
Further congratulations in order to the GMU economics department for 2 more academic placements.
