As a native of a former communist country, I plan to devote more time in the future to studying post-communist transitions, mostly because of a personal need too explain the phenomena I saw all around me and that are still, I think, very little understood tough less and less important as time goes by : what books or articles do you highly recommend on this subject ?

Bogdan,

Andrei Shleifer's work.
Janos Korani's early work on the problems with socialism.
Anders Aslund's work.
Steve Pejovich's work.

This is where I would start, and I would track down the references they cite and that will get you going.

Thank you very much. I'm already familliar with bits of the work done Pejovich and Korani.
